Program Overview
Introduction to the Master of Science in International Business
The Master of Science in International Business (MScIB) offers hands-on learning and practical skills development for students looking to excel in the global business environment. The program's structure, which includes three modules and a final project, is designed to help students understand how companies implement commercial, financial, human resources, and operational strategies for internationalisation.
Programme Structure
The MScIB programme consists of three core modules and a final project:
- 1st term: Internal and External Diagnosis
- 2nd term: Strategic Planning
- 3rd term: Business Operations
Core Modules and Subjects
The programme includes the following subjects:
- Business Game. Simulation of Strategic Decisions: Definition of corporate and international business strategies, marketing research, and simulation of marketing decisions.
- Business Trip. International Trade Mission: An opportunity for students to perform a series of activities during the trip and experience the implementation of an international business plan in a foreign country.
- Culture and Organization of International Business: International business culture, organisational structure, and control systems.
- Import/Export Management. International Contracts: International contracts, the international sales contract, and intermediation contracts.
- Institutions and Markets. Regional processes of Economic Integration: Cooperation and economic integration, worldwide economic and industrial integration processes.
- International Business Strategy: Alternative international business strategic decisions, strategic resource analysis, and strategic considerations for the entry, expansion, and rationalisation of international business.
- International Economics: International economic and political relations, international economic institutions, and the economic theory of international trade.
- International Finance, Accounting and Taxation: General accounting plan, analysis of financial statements, cash-flow management, and international taxation.
- International Human Resources Management: The role of international human resources management, recruitment of talent, mobility of personnel, and cross-cultural management.
- International Management, Communication & Negotiations: Parameters and reference systems that guide the processes of negotiation in diverse multi-cultural environments.
- International Marketing Management: Global Marketing strategic considerations, target definition, and international marketing mix.
- International Risk Analysis. Economic, Social and Political Environment: Globalisation and international trade, international relations, and current economic, social, and political affairs.
- Internship: A trimester-long internship in organizations that have a collaboration agreement with BSM and ESCI-UPF.
- Logistics and International Supply Chain Management: Design of global supply chains, quantitative methods for decision making in international logistics.
- Marketing Research and Opportunity Analysis: The marketing research process, qualitative and quantitative information gathering techniques.
- Master's Thesis: An original piece of work that sets out an international market entry programme or business plan for a new firm looking to do international business.
Qualification Obtained
Upon completion of the course, students will obtain the Màster Universitari en Negocis Internacionals (International Business - Máster Universitario en Negocios Internacionales) official Master Degree, awarded by Pompeu Fabra University. Additionally, students will receive an Master of Science in International Business completion certificate awarded by the UPF Barcelona School of Management and ESCI-UPF.
