Program Overview

Màster en Recerca Biomèdica (BIOMED)

Overview

The Màster en Recerca Biomèdica (BIOMED) is a master's program that offers students the opportunity to conduct research in biomedical fields. The program includes the realization of stays in national and foreign centers as part of the activity Pràctiques de Recerca Biomèdica, leading to the obtaining of results for the final master's project (TFM).

Mobility

Around 80% of the students in the master's program carry out experimental projects as practices in external centers (national or foreign). In these cases, there is no constant offer of research groups that host students every year, and the external groups to which students are assigned vary each course.

Centers or Laboratories

The master's program has agreements with numerous institutions, including Spanish institutions such as the CRG, IMIM, CMRB, IRB, Institut d'Investigació de Bellvitge (IDIBELL, Barcelona), Hospital Clínic de Barcelona, Institut de Salut Global de Barcelona (ISGlobal), and the Consell Superior d'Investigacions Científiques (CSIC), as well as foreign centers such as the Universitat Pierre i Marie Curie de París, Institut Pasteur de París, Laboratori Europeu de Biologia Molecular (EMBL), and various centers in the United Kingdom (Imperial College of London, Universitat d’Oxford, London University College) and research institutes in the United States (Institut Scripps, La Jolla Institute for Allergy and Immunology).

Supervision and Tutoring

In all cases, regardless of the center where the experimental practices are developed, the procedures for supervision and tutoring of these by the student's directors (external and tutor of the DCEXS) follow a common regulation for all students. The rules for the elaboration, format, and extension of the TFM are also common for all students, following the guidelines of the BIOMED master's program, of which the students are informed, and the presentation, defense, and evaluation of the TFM take place at the DCEXS.
