Double degree Munich - Master in Governance
Program Overview
Introduction to the Double Degree Program
The Double Degree program is a collaborative effort between Universitat Pompeu Fabra (UPF) in Barcelona and Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität (LMU) Munich in Germany. This program allows students to earn two master's degrees: the Master in Governance from UPF and the Master of Arts in Politikwissenschaft from LMU Munich.
Program Structure
The program is designed to be completed in two years, with the first year spent at UPF and the second year at LMU Munich. The program is fully taught in English.
Degrees Awarded
Upon successful completion of the program, students will be awarded the following degrees:
- Master of Arts in Politikwissenschaft from LMU Munich
- Máster Universitario en Gobernanza / Màster Universitari en Governança / Master in Governance from UPF

Compulsory Courses

- Federalism, self-determination and multilevel governance: comparative political theory
- Advanced Techniques of Statistical Analysis I

- Advanced Techniques of Statistical Analysis II
- Inequality and diversity: theoretical and institutional aspects
- Advanced Political Theory of the 21st Century
- Master Thesis
Optional Courses
Students must choose four optional courses from the following list:
- Theoretical and Conceptual Foundations of Migration Policies
- Comparative Policy and Governance of Migrations
- Comparative Political Economy: Regimes, Conflict and Development
- Politics and Gender
- Intersectionality and discrimination in politics and society
- Current Research on Diverse Democracies
- Nationalisms and Liberal Democracy
- Advanced Analysis of Electoral Systems
Admission Requirements
To be admitted to the Double Degree program, students must apply to and be admitted by both UPF and LMU Munich.
Admission Requirements at UPF
Students must meet the admission requirements set by UPF.
Admission Requirements at LMU
International students must apply to the Geschwister Scholl Institute and the International Office. A certificate of German knowledge is not necessary. Only students with a B.A. in Political Science (or equivalent) will be admitted.

Tuition Fees
Students participating in the Double Degree program pay the regular tuition fees at UPF for the Master in Current Democracies. At LMU Munich, students are required to pay a mandatory fee for student services and basic off-peak public transport.
