Program Overview

The Doctoral Program in Law at the UPF aims to contribute significantly to the improvement of third-cycle training with a substantial increase in the number of doctors who can join both the science and technology system and the productive sector.


Objectives

The program proposes that students, upon completing the program, be able to develop the following basic and general competencies:


  1. Basic Competencies
  • Systematic understanding of a field of study and mastery of the skills and methods of research related to this field.
  • Ability to conceive, design, or create, implement, and adopt a substantial research or creation process.
  • Ability to contribute to the expansion of the boundaries of knowledge through original research.
  • Ability to perform a critical analysis and evaluation and synthesis of new and complex ideas.
  • Ability to communicate with the academic and scientific community and with society in general about their areas of knowledge in the ways and languages commonly used in their international scientific community.
  • Ability to promote, in academic and professional contexts, scientific, technological, social, artistic, or cultural advancement within a knowledge-based society.
  1. General Competencies
  • Ability to develop in contexts where there is little specific information.
  • Ability to find the key questions that need to be answered to solve a complex problem.
  • Ability to design, create, develop, and undertake new and innovative projects in their area of knowledge.
  • Ability to work both in a team and autonomously in an international or multidisciplinary context.
  • Ability to integrate knowledge, face complexity, and formulate judgments with limited information.
  • Ability to perform an intellectual critique and defense of solutions.

Professional Outcomes

The competencies obtained by future doctors in Law will enable them to develop a teaching and research career in the field of legal sciences and any other professional activity that requires high-level legal training.
