Program Overview

Introduction to the ECOTOPIA Program

The ECOTOPIA program is a unique degree program developed jointly by eight universities and global partners of the EUTOPIA alliance, which includes the Pompeu Fabra University (UPF). The program is designed to provide students with a European certification upon completion of their degree studies in the fields of commerce, marketing, or international finance.

Program Overview

  • The program is a three-year degree program that takes place simultaneously on each of the participating universities' campuses.
  • It offers students the unique opportunity to work in international teams within the academic environment.
  • The program aims to form informed and proactive citizens and leaders who are committed to developing their future careers in a global context.
  • The curriculum focuses on providing students with solid skills and knowledge in areas such as economics, management, finance, and business, with a key emphasis on sustainability.

Program Structure

  • The first year includes a selection process for interested students and a virtual course on business and sustainability, culminating in a Summer School in Ljubljana.
  • The second year consists of an academic year exchange (60 ECTS) at a different ECOTOPIA center, which is also part of the ERASMUS+ program.
  • The third year includes a virtual course on global challenges or, alternatively, attendance at the Summer School organized by ESSEC-Rabat (Morocco) during the first three weeks of July.
  • All ECOTOPIA students prepare a portfolio with their learnings and tasks completed during the three courses of the program.

Participating Institutions

  • The program is a collaborative effort between the UPF and seven other institutions, including:
    • Universitat Babes-Bolyai (Cluj, Romania)
    • Universitat de Ca' Foscari de Venècia (Italy)
    • Universitat de Cergy (CY) de París (Institut d’Economie et Management)
    • ESSEC Business School (linked to CY)
    • Universitat de Ljubljana (Escola d’Economia i Negocis) in Slovenia
    • Vrije Universitet Brussels
    • Universitat de Stellenbosch (South Africa) as a global partner

Coordination and Future Developments

  • Starting from the next academic year, EUTOPIA-UPF will assume more responsibilities within the ECOTOPIA program.
  • The ESCI-UPF center will become the coordinating center of the ECOTOPIA network, taking over from the Universitat de Cergy, which has held this role for the first three years.
