Program Overview
Introduction to the Erasmus Mundus Joint Master in Artificial Intelligence (EMAI)
The EMAI is a two-year Master's programme offered by four higher education institutions. Students will visit three different countries during the first year and will then have the opportunity to choose where they wish to do their Master's thesis during the second year.
Academic Information
EMAI students may choose among all consortium member universities and specialise in one of the four offered strands:
- Intelligent Decision Making in Spain
- Robotics in Italy
- Cybersecurity in the Netherlands
- Data Science in Slovenia
The specialisation involves the development of a Master Thesis Project, working closely in one of the academic research groups or in an industrial environment.
Study Programme
The programme is structured as follows:
- 1st Semester:
- 2nd Semester:
- Summer School
- 3rd and 4th Semesters (Specialisation):
- Intelligent Decision Making
- Robotics
- Cyber Security
- Data Science
Research Internship and Master's Thesis
- The Research Internship (15 ECTS)
- The Master's Thesis (30 ECTS)
Learning Outcomes (LOs)
The Learning outcomes of the EMAI are aligned with level 7 of the Framework for Qualifications in the European Higher Education Area:
- In terms of knowledge:
- LO-1: Understand the different paradigms of artificial intelligence, their computational and mathematical frameworks, and the interface between them.
- LO-2: Identify advanced uses of artificial intelligence models and algorithms to be applied in a real-world problem.
- LO-3: Develop specialised knowledge of topics in the field of artificial intelligence in written, oral, and visual form to address scientific challenges.
- In terms of skills:
- Intellectual skills:
- LO-4: Recognize the responsible development and use of AI when applied to society or innovation.
- LO-5: Compose original research questions to develop new knowledge and methods in the field of AI.
- Transferable skills:
- LO-6: Communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing, in academic and professional contexts.
- LO-7: Present materials coherently and concisely in written form, with clear use of language, professional referencing and use of tables, diagrams, and graphics where appropriate.
- In terms of competences:
- LO-8: Evaluate using scientific methods the reliability and validity of artificial intelligence systems to deal with a project that involves massive data.
- LO-9: Critically evaluate different approaches to develop artificial intelligence systems within a broader context.
- LO-10: Apply the models and algorithms of the field of artificial intelligence, including data-driven machine learning, as well as symbolic reasoning methods to a well-defined problem.
- LO-11: Plan and execute a significant research project using a range of materials and relevant methodological approaches.
- LO-12: Manage time effectively to meet deadlines.
- LO-13: Program advanced artificial agents that interact with its environments, humans, and other agents in an intelligent way, in a range of industry-relevant programming languages.
- LO-14: Manage and transform work or study contexts that are complex, unpredictable and require new strategic approaches.
- LO-15: Take responsibility for contributing to professional knowledge and practice and/or for reviewing the strategic performance of teams.
