Program Overview


Master of Science in Sustainability Management

The Master of Science in Sustainability Management is a program designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of sustainability. The program is structured around four core pillars: Fundamentals of Sustainability, Environmental Dimension of Sustainability, Economic Dimension of Sustainability, and Social Dimension of Sustainability.


Program Structure

The program consists of a combination of compulsory and elective courses. Students will participate in all compulsory courses and have the flexibility to select six elective courses from the available modules. A tutor will be available to guide students through these options, aligning them with their personal ambitions and professional interests.

Carbon and Water Footprint

The course provides information on the advantages and disadvantages of undertaking a carbon and water footprint compared to other evaluation methods.


Climate Change Facts Emergency Political and Legal Context

The main aim of this course is to increase awareness of the importance of climate change as a global threat and provide applicable knowledge for professional careers.


Concepts of Sustainability, Circular Economy, and the SDGs

This course covers basic sustainability notions, new emerging models, and frameworks to describe, understand, and address key sustainability challenges.


Corporate Social Responsibility

The course aims to provide a deep understanding of the Corporate Social Responsibility concept and its application in companies.


Cradle to Cradle and Circular Economy

The course focuses on understanding the urgency of changing the present linear economic model and the key principles and philosophical approaches for a circular future.


Economics for Sustainable Development

This course explores the relationship between economic growth, human development, and sustainability, providing different sustainability definitions and criteria.


Energy and Renewables

The course enables students to understand the difference between energy from fossil fuels and energy from renewable sources, as well as the environmental problems associated with energy use.


Environmental Impacts

The course helps students understand environmental phenomena in the context of ecosystems and the natural environment, providing basic concepts to analyze environmental impacts.


Environmental Law and Jurisprudence

The course presents the state-of-the-art of environmental law globally and in the European Union, exploring domestic environmental law through emerging environmental debates and controversies.


Green Procurement and Environmental Labelling

This course provides practical information on identifying and interpreting environmental labels, eco-labels, and seals on products, as well as green purchasing strategies.


Marketing and Communication Fundamentals

The course prepares students to carry out a market analysis, identify opportunities, and develop proposals for products or services that respond to sustainability and business ethics needs.


Master Thesis

The Master's Thesis is a key output of the learning process, where students delve into a topic of interest, developing skills and abilities acquired throughout the program.


Product and Environment

The course provides tools to determine the environmental impact associated with products and services, as well as ecodesign strategies to improve them.


Public-Private Collaboration in Sustainable Projects

This course presents the business case for employing Public-Private Partnerships (PPP) in projects involving sustainability management, providing specific knowledge and skills for designing and executing PPP with a sustainability mission.


SDGs in Practice

The course provides a specialized vision of the practical implementation of the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by societal actors, focusing on themes like food, water, and health, and diverse territorial scopes.


Social Entrepreneurship

This course provides students with the necessary skills to create, develop, and lead social enterprises, analyzing strategic and operating aspects, and promoting entrepreneurial and innovation competencies.


Sustainability Communication

The course offers tools to communicate sustainability commitment, both internally and externally, designing communications plans aligned with business strategy, and identifying crisis situations or greenwashing cases.


Sustainability in Logistics and Operations

The course develops basic concepts that define the sustainability of a supply chain, applying sustainability criteria to execute logistics processes, from demand forecasting to point-of-sale management.


Sustainability Management Systems

This course focuses on gaining understanding of the main sustainability management systems that can be integrated into a company to improve and certify sustainability standards.


Sustainable Finance

The course analyzes, discusses, and critically evaluates finance and banking practices, including regulation, to address environmental and social challenges, understanding the role of the financial sector in sustainability.


Titulación

Upon completing the program, students will obtain the title of Master of Science in Sustainability Management, issued by the Universidad Pompeu Fabra. A fee will be applied for the issuance of the title, as stipulated in the DOGC (Diario Oficial de la Generalitat de Catalunya).
