Specialization in Language Learning and Teaching

The specialization in Language Learning and Teaching allows students to understand key theoretical and applied issues in language education. The program focuses on the processes and practices of teaching and learning one or more languages, including language didactics, in various multilingual settings.

Objectives

The program has two main objectives:

1. To provide students with a basic understanding of descriptive and theoretical models, methods of data collection, processing, and analysis, and interpretation of results, to initiate research in language education.
2. To transfer knowledge to:

• Research practice
• Teaching in the classroom or online, in various modalities (preparing and delivering classes, developing and adapting teaching materials, preparing descriptive and experimental tests, training teachers, working in language education publishing)

Teaching Staff

The teaching staff responsible for this specialization develops research projects with international projection, particularly within the Gr@el research group (Language Learning and Teaching Research Group). Their research lines include didactic intervention in language learning, literacy (critical, digital), assessment, and reflective teaching practice.

Courses

The specialization includes the following courses:

Language of Instruction

The courses in the Language Learning and Teaching specialization are generally taught in Spanish, although students need to have a good command of English to follow the methodological courses and advanced training. A high level of Spanish (at least C1 level of the Common European Framework of Reference) is essential to follow courses like Procedures and Skills in the Classroom or Pedagogical Grammar of Spanish.

Professional Outcomes

The specialization prepares students for various professional outcomes, including:
