Program Overview
The ELE: Teacher training program is designed to provide participants with the necessary tools and knowledge to teach Spanish as a foreign language. The program is accredited by the Instituto Cervantes and offers a comprehensive overview of the methodological and technical principles for teaching Spanish.
Program Objectives
The program aims to:
- Reflect on the basic concepts related to the process of teaching and learning a foreign language.
- Become familiar with the use of teaching materials and resources in the classroom.
- Analyze didactic and methodological criteria in order to provide the necessary tools for the elaboration of didactic units and for the good development of teaching practice.
- Facilitate principles and techniques of evaluation.
- Observe different aspects of a teacher’s performance in class and identify aspects of teaching competence.
- Develop a proposal for teaching intervention.
- Give direct teaching in the classroom and then analyze the teaching practice.
Program Contents
The program covers the following topics:
- Class 0: the starting point.
- What is it like to be a good foreign language teacher?
- Learning models and reference documents.
- Manuals and other teaching resources in the classroom.
- Grammar treatment in the ELE class.
- Vocabulary treatment in the ELE class.
- Communicative activities: written comprehension and expression.
- Communicative activities: oral comprehension and expression.
- Correction and evaluation.
- Planning a teaching unit.
- Introduction to class observation.
- Practical sessions: micro-teaching and feedback.
- Direct teaching in the classroom.
Program Editions and Schedules
The program is offered in two editions:
- Face-to-face edition: October 6 - December 15, 2025, Monday and Wednesday, 5:30 - 7:30 pm.
- Face-to-face intensive edition: June 29 - July 10, 2026, Monday to Friday, 9:30 am - 2:00 pm.
Access Requirements
The program is aimed at adults, preferably graduates or students of Translation and Interpreting, Philology, Applied Languages, or related careers, as well as university-level individuals from other disciplines who want to guide their professional career towards the teaching of Spanish as a foreign language.
Certificate
Students who pass the program will receive a certificate of completion issued by Pompeu Fabra University and a brief qualitative report that describes their personal performance throughout the teaching internship.
Price
The price of the program is 440 €, which includes theoretical classes, didactic material, and the UPF certificate. No discounts apply. The program reserves the right to cancel any course that does not reach the minimum number of students required, in which case the full amount of the course will be refunded.
