Program Overview


Máster en Documental de Creación

The Máster en Documental de Creación is a program that provides a solid preparation, both theoretical and practical, on documentary filmmaking and production. It is a reference program at an international level for its quality, innovative character, creative freedom, and ability to train new professionals.


Presentation

The program has been running for over 10 editions, producing more than 33 documentary films that have participated in major national and international festivals. The next edition is scheduled to start on January 22, 2026.

Objectives

The program aims to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of documentary filmmaking, from the initial idea to the final product. It covers various aspects, including narrative, aesthetics, history, and perspectives of documentary filmmaking, as well as the development of a personal project.


Target Audience

The program is designed for professionals in the audiovisual media and graduates in Audiovisual Communication and Sciences of Communication or other disciplines interested in forming as project promoters, filmmakers, or producers.


Admission and Enrollment

The admission process involves the presentation of a project, which will be evaluated by a panel of professionals. The program also offers scholarships and financial aid to selected students.


Plan of Studies

The program is structured into three subjects and a documentary project that is developed throughout the first two subjects. The plan of studies includes:


  • Narrative, aesthetics, history, and perspectives of documentary filmmaking: This subject covers the origins, forms, and genres of documentary filmmaking, as well as the analysis of films and the study of new formats, forms, and production strategies.
  • Development of a personal project: This subject involves the development of a personal documentary project, from the initial idea to the final product.
  • Participation in the master's initiative projects: Students participate in the development and production of three documentary projects in collaboration with independent production companies.

Complementary Activities

The program includes various complementary activities, such as:


  • UPF-BSM Inside: A group of transversal and interdisciplinary subjects that students can access without additional cost.
  • Programa LABED: A laboratory for accompanying editorial documentaries, where students can receive funding and tutoring to access the international market.
  • Access to festivals: The program provides facilities for accreditation to festivals and events related to documentary filmmaking, both national and international.

Titulation

Upon completing the program, students will receive a digital title of Máster de formación permanente en Documental de Creación, issued by the Universidad Pompeu Fabra.

Methodology

The program's methodology combines theory and practice, with a focus on the development of a personal documentary project. Students will participate in the conception and realization of documentary films, while developing their own project in parallel.
