Educational Objectives
The course aims to provide an introductory overview of the conservation and diagnostics of archaeological materials. Participants will learn about the production cycles of materials, from raw materials to finished products, and how knowledge of these cycles affects the conservation of materials. The program will cover the chemical and physical properties of materials used in different historical periods, such as stone, ceramics, and metal, in order to better understand the problems related to their conservation.
Course Content
- The course will delve into basic techniques for the recovery and conservation of artifacts in the field, guiding participants through the initial documentation phase of artifacts, including cataloging, inventorying, manual and digital surveying, and the use of 3D techniques for the conservation and future enhancement of cultural heritage.
- Non-invasive diagnostic techniques will be explored, promoting a sustainable and responsible approach to conservation.
- The course aims to raise awareness about the importance of protecting cultural heritage, while providing fundamental tools for understanding and applying common practices in the sector.
