  • Acquisition of methodological and statistical skills, particularly in the management of diagnostic data and therapeutic programming.

Specific Educational Objectives

The specific educational objectives of the program include:


  • Exhaustive knowledge of diagnostic, clinical, and instrumental techniques, as well as basic surgical techniques.
  • In-depth knowledge of surgical semeiotics, physical and instrumental, odontostomatological.
  • Identification of diagnostic pathways useful for framing the various odontostomatological pathologies of surgical interest and the various types of edentulism.
  • Acquisition of specific skills in the execution of local anesthesia techniques, with conscious sedation and sedo-analgesia.
  • In-depth knowledge of general anesthesia techniques and emergency treatment.
  • Pursuit of targeted preparation in individual oral surgery procedures and treatment of odontostomatological pathologies of surgical interest and total or partial edentulism.
  • Acquisition of specific skills in the prevention and interception of odontostomatological pathologies of surgical interest, with particular reference to inflammatory, dysplastic, neoplastic, orthodontic, and pre-prosthetic pathologies.
  • Acquisition of skills in multidisciplinary approaches between oral surgery and various disciplines included in the scientific-disciplinary sector in which the specialization school is integrated.
  • In-depth study of knowledge on local and systemic implications related to oral surgical treatment of patients with diseases of other systems and organs, including rare diseases.

The affine, integrative, and interdisciplinary objectives of the program include:


  • In-depth study of the foundations of pathologies related to alterations of the dento-maxillo-facial district.
  • In-depth study of the foundations of legal medicine in its various aspects, including clinical bioethics.
  • In-depth study of the foundations of health management.
  • In-depth study of the knowledge of legislative norms that regulate health organization.
  • In-depth study of the English language at a level that allows understanding of international literature and updating.
  • Acquisition of computer skills useful in particular in the management of diagnostic data and therapeutic programming.

Research Activities

To achieve full professional maturity and competence, an adequate ability to interpret scientific innovations and critical knowledge is required. The program includes participation in meetings, congresses, production of scientific publications, and possible attendance at qualified Italian and foreign institutions.


Didactic Activities

The practical training activity of the specialists takes place in the structures of the Azienda Ospedaliera Universitaria Policlinico Umberto I. The training of the specialist includes guided and assisted participation in all practical, clinical-diagnostic-therapeutic activities of the various branches of oral surgery. This participation is also certified through formal attendance records. The professionalizing activities for the specialization in oral surgery are identified in the therapies of the specific pathologies listed in the characterizing objectives. The specialist concurs to the diploma after completing the professionalizing activities.
