Architecture - Interior and Exhibit Design
Program Overview
Architecture - Interior and Exhibit Design
The Master's Degree Course aims to refine and enhance the basic training acquired through the three-year degree and orient it towards achieving adequate preparation to support a role of greater competence and responsibility in the field of architectural design, combining cultural depth and technical-scientific specialization.
Objectives
The Course aims to train a highly qualified architect, capable of:
- addressing and resolving issues related to the design of internal spaces (both public and private) and urban layout, in contexts of new construction as well as in the reuse and restoration of existing buildings. The student will acquire the necessary skills to manage the complex interrelations between the various disciplines involved in the development of these types of projects;
- managing the entire production process of architecture and layout, from the idea phase to realization, with an integrated and coordinated vision of the various design and operational phases;
- controlling design choices, both at the level of individual building units and large urban spaces, considering in particular the objectives of environmental sustainability, efficient use of resources, and consistency with the contexts of intervention. This will be made possible by the acquisition of solid technical knowledge and the use of a theoretical-cultural approach that allows addressing design issues with critical awareness;
- developing an autonomous capacity for critical judgment to address issues related to architectures, spaces, and modes of use that characterize the city and its history. The student will be able to analyze and manage the processes of continuous urban transformation, contributing to an architecture that responds to the dynamics of change without continuity;
- developing a capacity for reading the static conditions of architectural forms and structures, evaluating the consequences of space and building transformation operations;
- using new systems of representation and visual restitution, applying them to the design of internal spaces and architecture in general.
The Course aims to train an architect with specific skills in the field of interior space design, intended as the main areas of transformation, recovery, reuse, and regeneration of the built heritage, both at the building scale and urban space. The objective is to prepare professionals able to intervene in space with aesthetic sensitivity and technical competence, contributing to its renewal in formal and functional aspects.
Teaching Methodology
The teaching methodology of the Master's Degree Course is organized according to two different teaching modalities, traditional and laboratory-based, which correspond to the same student-teacher ratio. Traditional teachings are characterized by contents referring to a specific disciplinary sector or the integration of two sectors, and are oriented towards learning and knowledge of the relative theories, methodologies, and operational tools, in respect of the qualifying training objectives of the degree class and with specific orientation towards the fields of interest of the aforementioned disciplinary sectors.
Laboratories are composed of multiple applied teachings, from the same or different disciplinary sectors, with the indication of the one that plays a guiding role and those that are integrated. They are carried out in a coordinated manner by multiple teachers under the responsibility of the holder of the guiding discipline. Attendance at laboratories is mandatory for a percentage of classroom hours defined by the Didactic Regulations.
In any case, a number of CFU (University Formative Credits) of applied activities and laboratory work is planned, exceeding the minimum required in the declaratoria of the class, as it is expected to carry out small applied experiences even within some traditional courses.
The laboratories mark the training path through an incisive thematic characterization, corresponding to the areas of interest and interscale declination of Interior Architecture and the specificity of the links with the reference territory. The relationship with the city that hosts us, Rome, as a master of architecture, is explicitly stated through an introductory workshop to the training path, which consists of several design laboratories.
Curriculum
The curriculum includes:
- Four monodisciplinary teachings related to:
- The History of interior design and layout;
- Technologies for intervention on existing buildings and layout;
- Digital representation and modeling;
- Structural techniques.
- A integrated course between the discipline of Economic Evaluation and Project Management of architecture, together with the final exam and internship, which conclude the training path.
The time reserved for individual study, as well as the organization of teachings in semesters, will be defined in the Didactic Regulations of the course of study.
