Program Overview

Program Overview

The Master's Degree in Media Production Studies and Performing Arts aims to provide specialized, historical, theoretical, methodological, and operational training in the fields of theatrical performance, dance, cinematography, television, and media. The program has the following specific and transversal training objectives:

  • Formation of high-level experts in the ideation, planning, organization, and production of live performances and media.
  • Specific training related to the processes of dramatic writing in relation to production methods, with the objective of forming experts in the fields of screenwriting and dramaturgy, with both historical-theoretical-critical and practical-productive knowledge and skills.
  • Training in the use of digital technologies, including Artificial Intelligence and data visualization tools, with applicative purposes in the production, quantitative analysis, and transmedia communication fields.
  • Formation of experts and scholars in the historical, critical, theoretical, pedagogical, methodological, political, and conservation aspects of live performance, cinema, and media.

Program Structure

The program is structured into specific curricula that allow students to qualify their profile in the direction of either the performing arts sector or the cinema and media sector, while safeguarding the historical-theoretical-interpretative component fundamental to a university-level master's program. The training path has been designed to define a balance of disciplinary contents with both historical-cultural-interpretative and professionalizing aspects in the fields of live performance, cinema, and media.

Course Details

The program includes courses in:

  • Organization, production, planning, and legislation of performances, audiovisual, and media.
  • Dramaturgy and writing for performances.
  • Digital technologies applied to performances, always valued in both historical-critical and practical-productive senses. In the first year, courses are also provided in the fields of socio-anthropological, historical, and art history disciplines, aimed at acquiring indispensable historical-critical-methodological knowledge and skills.

Personalized Study Paths

The program, although organized into curricula, allows and encourages the definition of personalized study paths. Along with 12 credits of free choice by the student, the groups of optional teachings allow for orienting the study plan towards individual didactic paths, while always maintaining the possibility of defining an autonomous study plan.

Transversal Skills

The program stimulates the acquisition of transversal knowledge and skills, providing 6 credits for other training activities, internships, and/or laboratory and experiential activities, also with practical-professional and orientation purposes, and gives evidence through a dedicated website.
