Musicology Program

The Musicology program at Sapienza Università di Roma is designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of music and its various aspects. The program aims to enable students to master the subjects and apply them in other fields of study with the correct use of specific technical language.


Curriculum

The curriculum for the Musicology program is as follows:


  • First Year, First Semester:
    • ETHNOMUSICOLOGY [L-ART/08] [ITA] (6 CFU)
      • Educational objectives: The course aims to provide basic elements of the discipline; it enables the student to master the subjects in order to use it and apply it in other fields of study with the correct use of the specific technical language.
    • General Archivistics [M-STO/08] [ITA] (6 CFU)
      • Educational objectives: The course aims to provide basic elements of the discipline; it enables the student to master the subjects in order to use it and apply it in other fields of study with the correct use of the specific technical language.
  • First Year, Second Semester:
    • STAGE AND PERFORMANCE IN EUROPE [L-ART/05] [ITA] (6 CFU)
      • Educational objectives: The course aims to provide basic elements that will put into context the motivations that in the second half of the XVIII Century, led theater to become a true “laboratory of soul and emotions”.

  • Second Year, Second Semester:
    • OTHER USEFUL SKILLS FOR INCLUSION IN THE WORLD OF WORK [N/D] [ITA] (6 CFU)
      • Educational objectives: The specific aim is to enable the student to assist him with the more specific knowledge for inclusion in the future world of work.
    • OTHER LANGUAGE SKILLS [N/D] [ITA] (3 CFU)
      • Educational objectives: Development of the skills matured during the previous course.
    • Final exam [N/D] [ITA] (27 CFU)
      • Educational objectives: To allow the student to the writing of a text that represents the sum of the specialized knowledge achieved during the course of his study.

THREE-DIMENSIONAL MODELING

The student must acquire 12 CFU from the following exams:


  • MEDIEVAL AND EARLY MODERN MUSIC [L-ART/07] [ITA] (6 CFU)
    • Educational objectives: The course aims to provide basic elements of the discipline; it enables the student to master the subjects in order to use it and apply it in other fields of study with the correct use of the specific technical language.
  • MEDIA HISTORY OF MUSICAL THEATER [L-ART/07] [ITA] (6 CFU)
    • Educational objectives: The course aims to provide a historical view of opera on disc and video.
  • PHILOLOGY AND MUSICAL ANALYSIS [L-ART/07] [ITA] (6 CFU)
    • Educational objectives: The course aims to provide basic elements of musical philology and musical analysis; it enables the student to master the subjects in order to use it and apply it in other fields of study with the correct use of the specific technical language.
  • Film music and Musical [L-ART/07] [ITA] (6 CFU)
    • Educational objectives: The course aims to provide basic elements of the discipline; it enables the student to master the subjects in order to use it and apply it in other fields of study with the correct use of the specific technical language.

  • HISTORY AND THEORY OF SCREENPLAY [L-ART/06] [ITA] (6 CFU)
    • Educational objectives: The course aims to provide the fundamental principles of screenwriting, applying them to a series of exercises to be carried out in class.
  • HISTORY OF MODERN ART [L-ART/02] [ITA] (6 CFU)
    • Educational objectives: The course deals with and deepens some themes of History of Art in the period between Renaissance and Baroque ages.
  • Linguistics [L-LIN/01] [ITA] (6 CFU)
    • Educational objectives: A) Students will know the scientific literature on the topics dealt with and will be able to comment on it critically; B) they will be able to formulate linguistic hypotheses on the basis of the acquired analytical concepts and tools; C) they will be able to integrate their new knowledge with the previous ones in order to face the theoretical and practical complexity of acquired concepts; D) they also will manage to communicate knowledge entering in discussion with specialists of linguistic studies and non-specialists.
  • HISTORY OF CONTEMPORARY ART I A [L-ART/03] [ITA] (6 CFU)
    • Educational objectives: The course is meant for students already trained in history of Nineteenth- and Twentieth-Century Art and will deepen some historical and methodological aspects.
  • Geography Museums: geo-cartographic heritage and knowledge management [M-GGR/01] [ITA] (6 CFU)
    • Educational objectives: Starting from a description of the geographic heritage both at a local and national scale, research practices, cataloging, conservation of geo-cartographic assets will be discussed and experimented in order to enhance geographical knowledge's organization and education.
