Program Overview
Primary Teacher Education
The Primary Teacher Education program is an interfaculty course (Medicine and Psychology, Mathematical, Physical, and Natural Sciences, Letters and Philosophy) that lasts for five years and enables students to become teachers in infant and primary schools. The program aims to train teachers by promoting the acquisition of a scientific attitude, characterized by the habit of observation, theoretical reasoning, comparison, and discussion with others, and by enhancing the ability to integrate, re-elaborate, and communicate disciplinary contents through a balanced formation between theoretical elements and experience.
Program Structure
The curriculum is structured to allow for in-depth study, both from a theoretical and educational-didactic perspective, of the fields of experience and disciplinary areas provided for in infant and primary schools. The program is divided into:
- Basic training activities for the acquisition of competencies in the psycho-pedagogical, methodological-didactic, socio-anthropological, and digital fields;
- Characterizing training activities dedicated to the in-depth study of contents and didactics related to the fields of experience for infant schools and disciplines for primary schools;
- Training activities for the acquisition of competencies in the English language, TIC competencies, and professional competencies.
Training Activities
The proposed training activities include:
- Courses that aim to provide theoretical knowledge related to the different training areas (basic and characterizing), offering students the opportunity to critically compare diversified theoretical and methodological models specific to each discipline. The courses are organized over the five years according to the criteria of gradualness and propaedeutics and in a way that integrates the different disciplinary knowledge.
- Didactic laboratories, characterized by an experiential approach, coherent with the teaching methods proposed, are connected and integrated with the individual academic courses, according to criteria of continuity and progression. Attendance at the laboratories is mandatory.
- Direct internship activities (within infant and primary schools with the supervision of welcoming tutors) and indirect internship activities (in simulated situations and through group work that involves research, analysis, and reflection activities related to the experience carried out in the school with the supervision of university tutors). The internship is divided into individual years according to the criteria of continuity, commitment, and progressiveness. Attendance at direct and indirect internship activities is mandatory and must be carried out in schools accredited by the USR Lazio.
