Program Overview

Program Overview

The Master's Degree in Gender Studies, Cultures, and Policies for Media and Communication aims to train advanced professionals capable of operating in the information, media content production, promotion, and distribution sectors, as well as in brand communication and branding, and in the management of communication for national and European institutions and entities.

Objectives

The program focuses on forming professionals with advanced knowledge and skills related to gender-sensitive editorial products and communication styles, with specific attention to inclusion, respect, and valorization of differences. The program's specific educational objectives include:

  • The transmission of solid knowledge and skills related to the emergence of new cultures and subjectivities
  • The affirmation of changes determined by women's entry into the public sphere
  • The processes of constructing collective identities that modify the foundations of citizenship
  • The recognition and critical analysis of social, political, and economic representations and narratives that tend to reproduce disparities, imbalances, and inequalities based on gender and intersection with socioeconomic dimensions (age, nationality, ethnicity, class, economic condition, sexual orientation, etc.)

Educational Path

The first-year exams will focus on the relationship between democratic processes and gender-based representation policies, the social, cultural, political, and economic conditions that produce gender disparities, the link between media representations and the reproduction of gender stereotypes, and the principles guiding the choice of inclusive language and respect for differences. The second-year educational path will propose specific focuses on digital media narratives, brand communication and gender issues, the psychosocial foundations of discrimination and violence, the constitutional profiles of parity and related protections, and the economic and statistical dimensions of gender gaps.

Application and Career Opportunities

The knowledge and skills acquired in this program find application both in the management and internal communication of organizations, companies, entities, and institutions, and in the broader sector of media content production, promotion, and distribution. Particular emphasis is placed on theoretical and practical knowledge aimed at creating and disseminating editorial products in various media-supported formats, from traditional narrative and non-narrative, textual, and audiovisual formats to innovative formats characteristic of social networking platforms. These formats can generate engagement in audiences and are used in information and promotion campaigns and call-to-actions that represent the shared horizon on which both institutional and market communication move today. The media sphere, particularly social networking platforms, represents the privileged environment in which phenomena of incivility, hate speech, violence, and gender-based discrimination become visible; however, these same characteristics of digital environments also allow them to be considered ideal places where professionals can develop adequate strategies to counter these phenomena and promote awareness, critical sense, and inclusion.
