Program Overview

Physiotherapy Program

The Physiotherapy program is a three-year undergraduate degree that aims to form professionals capable of evaluating, treating, and preventing motor, neurological, respiratory, and musculoskeletal dysfunctions in individuals of all ages. The program belongs to the class of degrees in health professions for rehabilitation (L/SNT2).

Program Description

Physiotherapy is a health discipline with roots in ancient practices and manual therapies, which has evolved into a modern profession since the mid-19th century, particularly in the fields of orthopedics and neurology. In Italy, the profession of physiotherapist has developed since the 1950s with the establishment of the first schools for rehabilitation therapists, and was officially recognized with Law No. 403 of 1971. The full academic recognition occurred after Law No. 42 of 1999 and the subsequent Ministerial Decree 509/1999, which transformed the training courses into three-year university degree programs.

Program Objectives

The Physiotherapy program aims to train professionals who can:

  • Evaluate, treat, and prevent motor, neurological, respiratory, and musculoskeletal dysfunctions in individuals of all ages.
  • Promote health, improve quality of life, and facilitate the recovery of autonomy and social participation.
  • Use methodologies based on scientific evidence and center their interventions on the specific needs and objectives of the individual.

Program Structure

The program has a duration of three years and integrates a solid theoretical-scientific foundation with a significant practical component. The internships, organized and supervised in collaboration with qualified healthcare facilities, represent a cornerstone of the training path and allow students to acquire specific skills in real clinical contexts. The educational offer includes teachings in biomedical, clinical, and rehabilitative areas, as well as methodological, ethical, and communicative contents, with particular attention to the development of transversal skills and clinical reasoning.

Career Opportunities

At the end of the program, graduates in Physiotherapy are enabled to practice the health profession and can work in both public and private sectors, as employees or freelancers, in hospital, territorial, home, and community settings. The degree also allows access to first-level master's degrees, specialization courses, master's degrees, and research doctorates, promoting continuous professional updating and career development in clinical, teaching, management, and scientific research fields.
