Program Overview
Program Overview
The Applied Mathematics program is a master's degree course in the field of mathematics, aiming to form mathematicians with a solid theoretical foundation and broad knowledge of ideas and tools, including numerical methods, that contribute to the development of other disciplines such as physics, computer science, biology, economics, and engineering.
Program Objectives
The program's primary objective is to provide students with the competencies necessary to contribute to the solution of a wide range of applied problems. The curriculum is designed to enable students to learn new, complex subjects easily and to update their knowledge autonomously.
Career Opportunities
Graduates of the Applied Mathematics program can successfully integrate into productive realities, administrations, research environments, or pursue further education through doctoral studies or specialization schools in mathematics or disciplines that heavily utilize mathematical modeling. Although the program does not include explicit didactic paths dedicated to teacher preparation or divulgative activities, it guarantees a broad, culturally developed formation that covers all aspects of current mathematics teaching in schools, providing a good basis for graduates to embark on a teaching career.
Admission Requirements
To access the master's degree in Applied Mathematics, applicants must possess a bachelor's degree or a university diploma of three years' duration, or another academic title obtained in Italy or abroad, with the following curricular requirements:
- 27 credits in basic mathematical training sectors (MAT/02-03, MAT/05-08);
- 15 credits in basic physics training sectors (FIS/01-08) and/or basic computer science training sectors (INF/01, ING-INF/05);
- Additional 42 credits in sectors MAT/01-09, FIS/01-08, INF/01, ING-INF/05, and SECS-S/01. Personal preparation requirements include a good knowledge of basic mathematical training, physics basics, necessary computer tools, and English language proficiency at least at the B1 level. The possession of these knowledge areas is verified based on the presented curriculum and through possible interviews. The methods for verifying the possession of curricular requirements and personal preparation are defined in the Didactic Regulation.
