Program Overview

The Ph.D. program in Models for the Economy, Territory, and Finance is designed for individuals seeking to pursue a research path of excellence in topics relevant to economic geography, mathematical methods for economic and financial applications, and statistical methodology and applications. The program consists of two curricula:

  • Geography, Economics, and Territorial Statistics, which integrates competencies between human geography, statistics, and applied economics, allowing for research in territorial, regional, and urban analysis.
  • Mathematical Models and Methods for Economics and Finance, which provides mathematical and statistical competencies useful for learning and constructing complex models for economic analysis, finance, and actuarial sciences.

Obiettivi formativi

The program aims to provide students with the skills necessary to conduct research in economic geography, mathematical methods for economic and financial applications, and statistical methodology and applications. The program is divided into two curricula:

  • Geography, Economics, and Territorial Statistics: This curriculum integrates competencies between human geography, statistics, and applied economics, allowing for research in territorial, regional, and urban analysis.
  • Mathematical Models and Methods for Economics and Finance: This curriculum provides mathematical and statistical competencies useful for learning and constructing complex models for economic analysis, finance, and actuarial sciences.

Research Areas

The program covers three main disciplinary areas:

  • Economic Geography: This area promotes research on the main topics of interest for economic geography, social and urban geography, integrating qualitative and quantitative methodologies and spatial data analysis. The topics of interest include regional development, inequalities, urban, regional, and territorial policies, tourism, innovation, and environmental issues.
  • Mathematics for Economic and Financial Applications: This area provides students with the necessary tools for quantitative analysis and mathematical modeling to be applied in the economic, financial, and actuarial fields. The topics covered include the pricing of financial assets, risk management, game theory and decision-making, finance, and behavioral economics.
  • Statistics: This area provides knowledge of both methodological and applied statistics on the most advanced quantitative methods for economic and social research, finance, policy evaluation, regional analysis, and the use of traditional and innovative sources, as well as the experimentation of new methodologies.
