Overview
The Bachelor of Arts (Honours) is a one-year program that allows students to explore a topic in greater depth. This program is designed for students who have completed a bachelor's degree with an average of at least 75% across the major. The program consists of 50% coursework and 50% research work, with the research component taking the form of a research thesis of 15,000 words completed under the supervision of an academic employed in the Faculty of Arts, Social Sciences and Humanities.
English Literatures (major)
Studying English literatures will get students thinking creatively about the English language. Students will analyze theories, critique prose and verse, and take a more critical look at the signs and words surrounding them every day. This major introduces students to a broad range of texts, novels, poetry, essays, short stories, film, diaries, and letters from medieval times to the modern, with a strong international focus.

Admissions information
To qualify for entry into Honours, students must have completed a bachelor’s degree with an average of at least 75% across the major (or majors) in which the Honours degree will be undertaken, with the additional requirement of a Distinction in two of the 300-level subjects required by the major. Applicants are also required to complete a 500-word outline of the proposed thesis topic.
Academic Entry Requirements
Applicants must achieve the required score in a previous qualification, equivalent to completing at least 13 years of schooling in Australia.
English Language Requirements
The following level of English is required to gain admission to this program:
- IELTS Academic: 6.5 overall, with a minimum of 6.0 in each band
- TOEFL (Internet-based): 86 overall, with a minimum of 18 in Reading and Writing, and 17 in Listening and Speaking
