Overview

The Bachelor of International Studies - Bachelor of Laws is a double degree that offers a wide range of opportunities both at home and abroad, from international law, diplomacy, politics, or business. This combination provides a comprehensive legal education and a thorough grounding in the law, the social and ethical context in which law operates, while equipping students with essential practical skills.

Description

When you study International Studies, you will analyse national and global issues, learn about the forces shaping the modern world and the theories that underpin our understanding of important global issues. Students are encouraged to undertake study abroad to further expand their skills. The Bachelor of Laws equips you with a comprehensive legal education, including an internship and integrated skills program.

Accreditation & Professional Recognition

The Bachelor of Laws is accredited by the Legal Profession Admission Board. By completing your law degree at UOW, you are completing an academic qualification that is recognised for admission as a lawyer in Australia, subject to completing state-approved Practical Legal Training (PLT).

Admissions Information

Academic Entry Requirements

Applicants must achieve the required score in a previous qualification, equivalent to completing at least 13 years of schooling in Australia. To succeed in your chosen course, you should have completed relevant subjects in senior high school or other qualifications.

English Language Requirements

The following level of English is required to gain admission to this program:

• IELTS Academic: 7.0 (Overall), 6.5 (Reading), 7.0 (Writing), 6.0 (Listening), 6.0 (Speaking)
• TOEFL (Internet-based): 98 (Overall), 22 (Reading), 25 (Writing), 17 (Listening), 17 (Speaking)
• UOW College: English for Tertiary Studies: Distinction (weighted average mark of 75 overall and minimum 50 in Academic Reading and Writing)

Workload

As a full-time student, you can expect to commit around 48 hours of study per week. This includes class time and independent study. You may need to factor more time for examination study and practical work & placements.
