Program Overview

Master of Public Health Extension (Climate and Environment)

The Master of Public Health Extension provides a comprehensive introduction to public health. The extended degree allows you to tailor your learning to your career aspirations by completing additional specialisations or elective subjects.

Overview

Students will study four foundational (core) subjects in public health and can choose to specialise in the following:

  • Social systems
  • Big data and decision science
  • Indigenous health
  • Public health practice
  • Public health research
  • Climate and environment

Students may choose to complete an additional specialisation and/or public health electives from the study areas above. Specialisation is not a requirement for this degree.

Additionally, the Master of Public Health Extension has a strong focus on Work Integrated Learning, industry connections, and practical placements (available through the Public Health Practice specialisation), where you may apply theoretical knowledge into practice.

Climate and Environment (specialisation)

Climate change and associated disasters are some of the most pressing public health issues of our time, affecting everyone around the world. But some societies and population groups are more vulnerable than others to the mental, physical and social harms and this is, to a large extent, the result of political, social, economic and cultural factors that manifest differently in different places.

This specialisation will introduce students to seminal research on the links between climate, environment and health and commonly used methods, to provide a good foundation for further studies, independent research or employment options in environment and health.
