Program Overview

Introduction to the Bachelor of Science in Engineering (B.E.) - Engineering Physics

The Bachelor of Science in Engineering (B.E.) - Engineering Physics program is a four-year degree that combines fundamental concepts in physics with the application of science for advancing technology and sustainability. This program is designed to provide students with a strong foundation in engineering physics, enabling them to pursue careers in a wide range of fields.

Program Overview

The program is offered by the College of Engineering and is fully accredited by the Canadian Engineering Accreditation Board. The curriculum is designed to provide students with a thorough understanding of the principles and design of electronics, energy, optics, and lasers, as well as the modern physics of relativity and quantum mechanics.

What You Will Learn

In the first year, students will take part in the RE-ENGINEERED program, which is designed to help them succeed and make engineering more fun. The program includes daily tutorials, assignments, and quizzes, as well as hands-on courses that explore the different branches of engineering. Students will choose their engineering specialty at the end of their first year.

Featured Classes

Some of the classes that students may take while completing this degree include:

  • PHYS 252: Foundations of Modern Physics, which introduces Special Relativity and the foundations of quantum mechanics
  • EP 325: Optical Systems Design, which provides the foundation of geometrical optics for the understanding of complex optics in optical instruments
  • EP 440: Space Systems Design, which takes students through the entire process of designing and implementing a real space-based mission

Why Study Here?

The program enriches students with analytical skills of mathematics and scientific reasoning, technical skills of design, construction, and operation of systems, including nanotechnology, space instrumentation, particle accelerators, and more. Students will develop leadership skills as engineering physicists are called to manage projects involving electrical, mechanical, or chemical components and tasks.

Careers

With a degree in engineering physics, students could have many possible job opportunities, including:

  • Developing modern sensors for satellites that measure the earth and the atmosphere
  • Designing and testing advanced medical imaging and radiation detection equipment
  • Working on the next generation of communications by designing wireless devices and fibre optics
  • Conducting research as a graduate student in cutting-edge areas of physics, like spintronics and plasmonics

Tuition Estimates

The estimated tuition fees for the program are: | Canadian students | International students | --- | --- | | Tuition | $12,567 | $60,823 | Student fees | $1,308.24 | $1,308.24 | Books | $1,500 | $1,500 | Total | $15,375.24 | $63,631.24
