Overview

The Certificate in Human Nutrition provides non-B.Sc.(Nutr.) students who complete a set of core courses in nutrition with a formal acknowledgement of their accomplishment. This program is designed for students with an interest in nutrition who are not enrolled in the Bachelor of Science in Nutrition program.

Program Details

• Duration: Two-year certificate
• Delivery: Part-time program
• Location: Offered only at the main USask campus in Saskatoon, with one class offered flexibly at P.A. campus, regional colleges, and/or online

What You Will Learn

Students will complete core nutrition courses that cover the fundamentals of human nutrition. The Certificate in Human Nutrition also allows students to choose courses of interest that range from science to community-based topics.

Featured Classes

• NUTR 210.3 Food Fundamentals and Preparation: An introduction to the science of food and its application for home consumption. Topics include food chemistry, food preparation techniques, and factors affecting food consumption.
• NUTR 200.3 Introduction to Nutrition in Fitness, Sport and Health: This course provides a comprehensive overview of the introductory principles and practices of nutrition for physical activity across a variety of demographics.
• NUTR 350.3 Community Nutrition: This course is an introduction to the field of community and public health nutrition and its role in health and healthcare.

Program Options

This certificate is offered by the College of Pharmacy and Nutrition. You may earn the certificate on its own, concurrently with a degree program from this college or others, or after completing a degree.

Admission Requirements

• Completion of at least 24 credit units of post-secondary coursework
• Minimum average of 70% on 18 or more transferable credit units or the cumulative weighted average from a recognized and/or accredited post-secondary institution
• Proficiency in English
