Introduction to the Nutrition Program

The University of Saskatchewan offers a comprehensive Nutrition program, providing students with a wide range of potential specializations. The program focuses on areas highly relevant to improving health and quality of life, including clinical nutrition, community nutrition, nutritional biochemistry, dietary assessment, and nutritional epidemiology.

Program Details

• The program is available for both Master of Science (M.Sc.) and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degrees.
• Applications are accepted year-round, with students able to begin in September or January each year.
• The expected length of the program is 2 years for M.Sc. and 4 years for Ph.D.

Program Structure

• The program offers a thesis or project-based structure.
• Students in a thesis or project-based program pay tuition three times a year for as long as they are enrolled in their program.

Tuition and Funding

Funding

• Admission to the graduate program does not imply financial support.
• A limited number of University Graduate Scholarships (UGS) are available each year.
• Graduate Teaching Fellowships (GTF) and Graduate Teaching Assistantships (GTA) may also be available.
• National granting councils and private or publicly funded agencies offer merit-based fellowships and scholarships.

Thesis or Project-Based Master's Program

• Term: September 1 - December 31, 2025 - $1,812.00 CAD (Canadian students), $4,077.00 CAD (International students)
• Term: January 1 - April 30, 2026 - $1,812.00 CAD (Canadian students), $4,077.00 CAD (International students)
• Term: May 1 - August 31, 2026 - $1,812.00 CAD (Canadian students), $4,077.00 CAD (International students)
• Total per academic year: $5,436.00 CAD (Canadian students), $12,231.00 CAD (International students)

Doctoral Program

• Term: September 1 - December 31, 2025 - $1,812.00 CAD
• Term: January 1 - April 30, 2026 - $1,812.00 CAD
• Term: May 1 - August 31, 2026 - $1,812.00 CAD
• Total per academic year: $5,436.00 CAD

Student Fees

• In addition to tuition, students pay fees for programs like health and dental insurance, a bus pass, and other campus services.
• The amount depends on whether the student is full-time or part-time and on-campus or off-campus.

Admission Requirements

Master of Science (M.Sc.)

• Language Proficiency Requirements: Proof of English proficiency may be required for international applicants and for applicants whose first language is not English.
• A cumulative weighted average of at least 70% (USask grade system equivalent) in the last two years of study.
• A four-year honours degree, or equivalent, from a recognized college or university in an academic discipline relevant to the proposed field of study.

Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.)

• Language Proficiency Requirements: Proof of English proficiency may be required for international applicants and for applicants whose first language is not English.
• Master’s degree, or equivalent, from a recognized university in a relevant academic discipline.
• A cumulative weighted average of at least 75% (USask grade system equivalent) in the last two years of study.

Application Process

Find a Supervisor

• Using the list of research supervisors, find a potential supervisor and contact them to describe research interests and past academic experience.

Submit an Online Application

• Before beginning the application, review all program information and admission requirements.
• The application takes about 30 minutes to complete and requires payment of a non-refundable application fee.

Submit Required Documents

• Once the application is submitted, upload required documents, including transcripts and proof of English language proficiency (if required).
• Provide contact information for references.
