Postgraduate degree in Structural Concrete
Program Overview
Postgraduate Degree in Structural Concrete
The Postgraduate Degree in Structural Concrete is designed to update the knowledge and skills of professionals with a bachelor's degree or a master's degree in civil engineering, focusing on structural concrete and reinforced concrete construction. The course covers three key areas not typically addressed in conventional civil engineering courses: rehabilitation of structures, new regulations (notably the Portuguese Decreto-Lei 95/2019 and the new generation of Eurocodes), and digitalization in construction.
General Objectives
The primary objectives of the course are to equip students with the knowledge and skills necessary for the conception, design, management, preparation, construction, supervision, inspection, evaluation, maintenance, and rehabilitation of reinforced concrete structures.
Admission Requirements
- Holders of first-cycle (bachelor) courses or equivalent in Civil Engineering or related areas are eligible to apply.
- Candidates should review the admission requirements available on the university's website, in addition to the information provided here.
Mode of Study
The course is offered in a B-learning mode, combining online and offline learning experiences.
Teaching/Evaluation Language

Learning Objectives and Intended Skills
Upon completion of the course, students are expected to:
- Know and apply the new regulations and standards of Portugal and the EU in the field of structural concrete.
- Apply computational tools to support the creation, modeling, analysis, design, and management of reinforced concrete projects.
- Apply computational information tools in the management of building and other structure projects (BIM).
- Develop projects for reinforced concrete and prestressed concrete structures.
- Inspect and assess existing reinforced concrete structures.
- Develop rehabilitation or modification projects for reinforced concrete structures.
- Assess the seismic vulnerability of existing reinforced concrete structures.
- Develop seismic rehabilitation projects for reinforced concrete structures.
- Develop reinforced concrete prefabrication projects.
- Develop simple projects for foundations and earth retaining structures.
