Program Overview
The Public Administration Programme at the University of Coimbra is designed to provide students with rigorous training in Administration studies. The main objective of the program is to equip students with the skills and knowledge necessary to pursue public interest under the law, while also developing skills in other scientific areas such as Management.
General Objectives of the Course
The program aims to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of Administration studies, including the pursuit of public interest under the law. The growing complexity of Administration also requires skills in other scientific areas, such as Management, to figure out and solve economy-, finance-, accounting-, or management-related issues.
Admission Requirements
To be eligible for the program, students must meet the following requirements:
- National Call for Access and Entry to Higher Education (DGES)
- Entry exam: Two of the following subjects: English, Mathematics, or Portuguese
- Application score: 100 points (0-200 scale)
- Entry exams: 100 points (0-200 scale)
- Calculation Formula: Secondary school average (50%) and entry exams (50%)
- Other forms of access: Change of Institution/Course Pair Schemes, Special Access Call for over 23-year-olds, Special Access Call for Holders of Other Higher Education Courses, and Special Call for International Students

Mode of Study
The program is offered full-time, face-to-face, and daytime.
Teaching/Evaluation Language
The teaching and evaluation language is Portuguese.
Examination Regulations, Assessment, and Grading
Assessment is a pedagogical activity that aims to establish students' skills and training. Students may only register for exams in courses they are currently registered for. Assessment items include:
- Oral or written exams
- Written or practical work
- Individual and group projects that may require an oral defense
- Class participation Grading is based on a scale of 0 to 20, and a grade of 10 is required to pass.
Learning Objectives and Intended Skills
The program aims to:
- Provide students with training in Law and Management areas to enable them to take senior responsibilities in Public Administration.
- Provide an adequate balance between cross-cutting training and specialized training.
- Provide the skills needed for autonomous, rigorous, and responsibly creative performance of tasks.

Recognition of Prior Learning
Recognition of prior learning is carried out in accordance with the Academic Regulation of the University of Coimbra.
Qualification Requirements and Regulations
The legal framework for the qualification is established by Decree-Law nº 74/2006 and Ordinance nº 782/2009.
Graduation Requirements
To graduate, students must achieve a passing grade in a set of curricular units that amount to a total of 180 ECTS.
Access to Further Studies
The conclusion of the First Cycle in Public and Private Administration allows access to the Second Cycle of Studies in various areas of knowledge.
Study Programme
The study program is a 3-year, 180 ECTS Bachelor's Degree in Public Administration.

The program is accredited by the Agência de Avaliação e Acreditação do Ensino Superior, with registration number R/A-Ef 1592/2011/AL03.
