Master’s in Public and Private Administration

General Objectives of the Course

The Master’s in Public and Private Administration is a specialized technical and scientific training programme designed for students and professionals willing to deepen their training in the Public Administration area, in line with the new organizational and management presuppositions emerging in connection with national and international administrative institutions. The programme is designed to make the Law field one of the focal points, as Public Administration investigators and professionals require specific training to fully implement the subordination of Administration to juridicity.


Admission Requirements

Students who meet the following criteria may apply to this programme:


  • Holders of a Bachelor's degree or equivalent
  • Holders of a foreign academic degree following a 1st cycle of studies according to the principles of the Bologna Process by a country adhering to this process
  • Holders of a foreign academic degree recognized for meeting the objectives of a degree
  • Holders of an academic, scientific, or professional curriculum that the Scientific Council considers to enable the candidate to successfully complete this cycle of studies

Examination Regulations, Assessment, and Grading

Assessment is a pedagogical activity inseparable from the teaching process, aiming to establish students' skills and training, critical sense, ability to recognize and resolve problems, as well as written and oral presentation skills. Examples of assessment items include:


  • Oral or written exams
  • Written or practical work
  • Individual and group projects that may require an oral defense
  • Class participation Grading is based on a scale of 0 to 20, and a grade of 10 is required to pass.

Recognition of prior learning is carried out in accordance with the Academic Regulation of the University of Coimbra.


Qualification Requirements and Regulations

The legal framework for the qualification is established by Decree-Law nº 74/2006, of the 24th March, in its current wording, and by Ordinance nº 782/2009, of the 23rd July.


Graduation Requirements

Successful completion of courses totaling 120 ECTS, plus a dissertation or internship report with public discussion.


Access to Further Studies

Graduates may proceed to PhD degree studies.
