Program Overview
The Master's Degree in International Relations - Peace, Security and Development Studies is a 2-year, 120 ECTS program that aims to provide advanced training in the field of International Relations, focusing on issues of peace and security, development, and humanitarianism.
General Objectives
The objectives of this Master's program include:
- Providing advanced training in the field of International Relations
- Focusing on issues of peace and security, development, and humanitarianism
- Responding to the demands of a qualification that combines the deepening of conceptual and theoretical knowledge with the creation of advanced methodological and conceptual skills
Admission Requirements
As defined in Article 42 of the Academic Regulation of the University of Coimbra:
- Holders of a Bachelor degree or legal equivalent
- Holders of a foreign higher education degree awarded after a first study cycle organized according to the principles of the Bologna Process by an acceding State
- Holders of a foreign higher education degree recognized as complying with the objectives of the Bachelor degree by the Scientific Council responsible for the Master's study cycle
- In justified cases, applicants showing a scientific and professional curriculum relevant for attending the current study cycle may access the Master's study cycles upon recognition by the Scientific Council responsible for the Master's study cycle

The knowledge and competences provided by the MRI – Peace, Development, and Global Interventionism aim at giving continuity to the training in IR, privileging the analysis of international conflicts. The skills developed will allow students to perform professional activities in:

Recognition of Prior Learning
Recognition of prior learning is carried out in accordance with the Academic Regulation of the University of Coimbra.

Graduation Requirements
The Master's degree requires the successful completion of all units of study in the study plan (66 ECTS), as well as the successful defense of the dissertation or the internship report (54 ECTS). Successful completion of the first two semesters’ units of study, corresponding to 60 ECTS, will award an advanced studies diploma.
Access to Further Studies
Master's graduates in International Relations – Peace, Development, and Global Interventionism have increased competences for applying to a PhD program.
