The Bachelor's Degree in Information Science is a 6-semester program that aims to equip students with the theoretical and methodological principles of selection, organization, representation, retrieval, access, and preservation of information.
General Objectives of the Course
The program has the following objectives for students:
- to learn the theoretical and methodological principles of selection, organization, representation, retrieval, access, and preservation of information
- to understand the wealth, plurality, and complexity of current informational contexts and their relations
- to demonstrate proficiency in the use, assessment, and application of techniques, norms, and tools for the selection, organization, preservation, access, dissemination, and exchange of information
Admission Requirements
The admission requirements for the program are as follows:
- National Call for Access and Entry to Higher Education (DGES): one of the following sets:
- 06 Philosophy
- 18 Portuguese
- 11 History
- 18 Portuguese
- 17 Applied Mathematics Social Sciences
- 18 Portuguese
- Application score: 95 points (0-200 scale)
- Entry exams: 95 points (0-200 scale)
- Calculation Formula: secondary school average (50%) and entry exams (50%)

Examination Regulations, Assessment, and Grading
The assessment is a pedagogical activity that aims to establish the students' competencies and knowledge, critical sense, ability to recognize and resolve problems, as well as their written and oral presentation skills. The assessment items may include:
- Oral or written exams
- Written or practical work
- Individual and group projects that may require an oral defense
- Class participation The grading is based on a scale of 0 to 20, and a grade of 10 is required to pass.
Learning Objectives and Intended Skills
The students in this program should:
- have a critical understanding of the theory and methodology of Information Science
- know how to identify various normative, conceptual, and theoretical tools applicable to the processes of selection, organization, representation, dissemination, and preservation of information
- know how to apply different operative techniques that correspond to those normative tools
- know how to identify problems and understand the importance of methodological approaches in designing solutions
- develop fundamental writing and communication skills
- develop or improve their ability to work individually and in a team, demonstrating a high level of responsibility and ethical commitment
