Program Overview

The Master's in Information Sciences is a second-cycle study program designed to provide advanced training and research in the scientific area of information science. The program aims to promote critical knowledge of historical, ethical, and professional ethics governing the profession, as well as prepare students for a third cycle (PhD) and for mastering problems linked to the Information Society.


General Objectives

  • To promote advanced training and research in the scientific area of information science at an expert level
  • To prepare professionals, experts, academics, researchers, and highly qualified specialists
  • To prepare candidates for a third cycle (PhD)
  • To promote critical knowledge of historical, ethical, and professional ethics governing the profession

Admission Requirements

  1. Graduates in Archives, Libraries, and Information Science or Information Science
  2. Graduates in adequate areas to attend a Master's degree in Information Science
  3. Graduates of a foreign academic degree that is recognized as having the same objectives as a graduate degree by the scientific council of the Faculty
  4. Holders of an academic, scientific, or professional title that is recognized as attesting the capacity to attend this cycle of studies by the scientific council of the Faculty

Professional Goals

Besides being able to perform duties as a Librarian, Archivist, Content Manager, Professor (Higher Education), Researcher, Business, and Public Administration, graduates will also be able to guide librarians, archivists, and other information professionals to deepen their knowledge management in organizations, in the organization and integration of information, and in planning services for digital collections.

Examination Regulations, Assessment, and Grading

Assessment is a pedagogical activity inseparable from the teaching process, aiming to establish students' competencies and knowledge, their critical sense, ability to recognize and resolve problems, as well as their written and oral presentation skills. Examples of assessment items include:


  • Oral or written exams
  • Written or practical work
  • Individual and group projects that may require an oral defense
  • Class participation Grading is based on a scale of 0 to 20, and a grade of 10 is required to pass.

Graduation Requirements

To obtain a master's degree, it is necessary that the student meets the 120 ECTS foreseen in this proposal related to the curricular part (60 ECTS), supervision seminar (12 ECTS), and project or dissertation (48 ECTS).
