Program Overview
PhD in Feminist Studies
The PhD in Feminist Studies is a 4-year program that aims to provide advanced training in the area of Feminist Studies to students with different disciplinary formations. The program seeks to prepare students for a world in which, despite progress in sexual equity, sexual hierarchization and misogyny prevail. The program's objectives include developing critical awareness of the process of creating knowledge, the subject position in relation to the object of study and creation, as well as the politics present in mainstreaming different discourses.
General Objectives of the Course
The program's general objectives are to:
- Provide advanced training in Feminist Studies
- Prepare students for a world with prevailing sexual hierarchization and misogyny
- Develop critical awareness of knowledge creation, subject position, and discourse politics
- Provide empirical data and analysis methods on women's experiences
- Provide methodology and concepts for academic research and production in Feminist Studies at the PhD level
Admission Requirements
The following are eligible to apply for this study cycle:
- Holders of a master's degree, or its legal equivalent
- Holders of a bachelor's degree with an academic or professional resume of particular relevance recognized by the Academic Board of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities

Professional Goals
The program prepares students for careers as national and international gender experts, consultants, and employers in international organizations, national public entities, NGOs, and private corporations. Tasks include developing consultancy studies, public policies' projects, development aid projects, and training in gender-specific issues.

Examination Regulations, Assessment, and Grading
Assessment is a pedagogical activity that aims to establish students' competencies and knowledge. Examples of assessment items include oral or written exams, written or practical work, individual and group projects, and class participation. Grading is based on a scale of 0 to 20, and a grade of 10 is required to pass.
Learning Objectives and Intended Skills
By the end of the degree, students should be able to:
- Do critical analysis of media, literary, historiographic, and other representations of women
- Place gendered discourses and social practices in historical context
- Understand substantive issues involved in gender relations and social change
- Be familiar with identity theory and its relation to notions such as sexual identity, gender, race, ethnicity, culture, sexual citizenship, and Human Rights
- Discuss the relation of feminism(s) with racial and ethnic identities and colonialism
- Do autonomous research using adequate tools and methodology
- Present research results in oral and written form, clearly argued and sustained by theory and data
- Debate research results in an academic context at the highest level
