Introduction to Portuguese Sign Language I
General Objectives of the Course
The course aims to provide learners with linguistic and psycholinguistic skills in Portuguese Sign Language.
Admission Requirements
- Applicants must be aged 16 years or over.

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading
- Continuous assessment (50%): assessment exercises throughout the semester.
- Summative assessment (50%): final and mandatory, at the end of each semester.
Learning Objectives and Intended Skills
Students will develop skills in:
- Communicating with a deaf person using LGP.
- Doing a presentation in LGP.
- Giving information about the Deaf, Community and Its Culture.
- Answering questions about a little 'story' told by a Deaf Person.
- Recognizing variants in the way the Deaf communicate.
Graduation Requirements
- Continuous assessment is the preferential regime to assess students’ knowledge, which requires 75% attendance and completion of two assessment tests.
- Other elements such as class participation, homework, and tasks performed throughout the course are also taken into account for evaluation.
- At the end of each level, students can request the corresponding certificate, if the course has been successfully completed.
