Program Overview
The Master's Degree in Adult Education and Training and Community Intervention is designed to prepare professionals with solid training in the field of adult education and community intervention. The program aims to equip students with the knowledge, skills, and competencies necessary to develop and implement educational programs and actions that cater to the needs of adult learners and their communities.
General Objectives
The program's general objectives include:
- Developing activities related to adult educational mediation and community education
- Participating in the administration and management of adult education and training systems and organizations
- Mediating processes of balancing competences and promoting the recognition, validation, and certification of prior learning
- Designing and monitoring scientific research projects in the field of adult education and training and community intervention
Admission Requirements
Candidates may be:
- Holders of a Bachelor's degree or legal equivalent
- Holders of a foreign higher academic degree that meets the objectives of the Bachelor's degree
- Holders of an academic, scientific, or professional curriculum that is recognized as attesting the capacity to accomplish this cycle of studies
Professional Goals
The program prepares students for various professional roles, including:
- Trainer, animator, mediator, and agent of individual and collective transformation processes
- Education for citizenship, community education, health education, environmental education, and more
- Companies and centers for raising formal education, qualification, and continuous training
- Validation of prior learning and skills
- Sociocultural animation
Mode of Study
The course is delivered in full-time or part-time attendance and daytime schedule.
Teaching/Evaluation Language
The teaching and evaluation language is Portuguese.
Examination Regulations, Assessment, and Grading
Assessment is a pedagogical activity that aims to establish students' competencies and knowledge. Examples of assessment items include oral or written exams, written or practical work, individual and group projects, and class participation. Grading is based on a scale of 0 to 20, and a grade of 10 is required to pass.

The University of Coimbra credits previous training or professional experience, with a view to continuing studies to obtain an academic degree or diploma.
Qualification Requirements and Regulations
The legal framework for the qualification is established by Decree Law no. 74/2006, 24th March, amended and republished by DL no. 107/2008, 25th June.
Graduation Requirements
The Master's Degree in Adult Education and Training and Community Intervention comprises a vocational track and a scientific track. Students must complete an internship and a report, as well as a research work and its dissertation.
Access to Further Studies
After obtaining this Master's Degree, it is possible to proceed to the third cycle of studies (PhD).
Study Programme
The program is a 2nd Cycle Studies - Lifelong Learning Master Programme, with a duration of 2 years and 120 ECTS credits.
