The Training Course in Fundamentals of Information Security is designed to equip students with a comprehensive understanding of information security concepts and techniques. The course aims to enable students to apply these concepts in real-world scenarios, identifying and safeguarding information assets.

General Objectives

The primary objectives of the course are for students to master the concepts and techniques associated with information security. By the end of the course, students should be able to understand and explore techniques associated with information security, develop information policies, and recognize the challenges posed by new tools associated with artificial intelligence.

Admission Requirements

• Senior Information Services technicians
• Senior technicians from Public Administration and Local Administration
• Other candidates with an interest in the topic covered

Mode of Study

The course is offered in an e-learning format.

Teaching and Evaluation Language

The language used for teaching and evaluation is Portuguese.

Examination Regulations, Assessment, and Grading

• Mandatory presence in 2/3 of the training contact hours
• Quantitative assessment with values ranging from 0 to 20

Learning Objectives and Intended Skills

By the end of the course, students are expected to develop crucial skills, including:

• Understanding the role of information in organizational management
• Practical application of Information Security (IS) concepts in real scenarios
• Ability to classify and protect critical information, ensuring confidentiality, integrity, and availability
• Knowledge of the fundamental principles of data protection in accordance with respective regulations
• Understanding of IS systems and mechanisms, including prevention, monitoring, detection, reaction, analysis, and correction of systems
• Awareness of the human component in IS and the need for security policies and strategies to mitigate incidents related to human action

Qualification Requirements and Regulations

The course operates under the rules of creation and operation of non-degree courses at the University of Coimbra.
