Applied Cartography Course Details

The Applied Cartography course is a 7.5-credit course offered at Umeå University.

Course Description

The focus of the course is applied, advanced cartography, which entails an in-depth understanding of fonts, color, and symbols, as well as corresponding practical applications in GIS in terms of labeling techniques, color choice, and symbolization. Theoretical and critical views of GIS as a tool, as well as maps as conveyors of information, are also given attention. Furthermore, the course provides an introduction to the post-processing of maps in raster and vector graphics software (Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator, respectively).
