Program Overview


Program Overview

The Aquatic Biogeochemistry program is a 7.5-credit course offered at Umeå University. It is a full-time, on-campus program that focuses on the study of biogeochemical processes in aquatic ecosystems.


Course Structure

The program consists of two modules:


  • Module 1: Project (4 credits) - Students plan and carry out a scientific study to test a biogeochemical question at issue.
  • Module 2: Theory (3.5 credits) - Enhanced theory blocks focusing on acidification and turnover of metals and environmental toxins in aquatic ecosystems.

Eligibility and Selection

To be eligible for the program, students must have:


  • 120 ECTS credits, including Aquatic ecosystems 5BI247 or 5GV090, 7.5 ECTS credits.
  • Proficiency in English equivalent to Swedish upper secondary course English B/6. The selection process is based on academic credits.
