Genetics and Evolution Course
The Genetics and Evolution course is a 15-credit course that focuses on eukaryotic organisms, dealing with genetics at cellular and organismal levels, population genetics, and microevolutionary processes.
Course Description
The course is divided into three modules:
- Module 1, Genetics, 5 hp: This module deals with the structure and replication of genetic material, control of gene expression, creation of genetic variation, and transfer of genetic information between generations.
- Module 2, Evolution, 7.5 hp: This module covers population genetics, genetic variation, Hardy-Weinberg's law, micro-evolutionary processes, speciation models, and principles of macroevolution.
- Module 3, Individual Investigative Project, 2.5 hp: Students write an individual, in-depth essay on a topic related to the course, requiring finding, summarizing, and synthesizing original research from academic journals.
