Program Overview
Master's Degree Thesis in Chemistry, 30 credits
The Master's Degree Thesis in Chemistry is a 30-credit course that aims to develop students' knowledge of Chemistry, their ability to apply acquired knowledge, and their skills in independently conducting and presenting a major assignment. The assignment should be of a research-like nature, and students are expected to actively participate in project planning, complete the assignment independently, document and present the results both verbally and in writing.
Course Structure
The course is divided into two modules:
- Module 1: Project description encompassing a literature study within a chosen project field, which provides background and enables planning of the project. This is presented in writing (5 credits).
- Module 2: Conducting the project, final report, and opposition (25 credits).
Eligibility
To be eligible for the course, students must have completed the four foundation courses in the master's program in chemistry:
- Biophysical-chemical concepts (5KE174)
- Advanced Experimental Tools in Chemistry (5KE175)
- Chemometrics (5KE053)
- Computational Chemistry (5KE176) or equivalent. English 6 / B or equivalent is also required.
Selection
Selection is based on academic credits.

As a citizen of a country outside the European Union (EU), the European Economic Area (EEA), or Switzerland, students are required to pay application and tuition fees for studies at Umeå University.

Additional Information
