Program Overview
The Carpathian Region: Ethnolinguistics and Cultural Studies program is a unique first-cycle study program focused on the language and culture of the geopolitically important European region, i.e., Carpathians, which cover the territory of Poland, Ukraine, Slovakia, and Romania.
Program Description
Students will learn two foreign languages at the same time – Slovakian and Ukrainian, and they will also have the possibility to learn the basics of another foreign language, Romanian or Lemko, depending on the student's choice. The program is delivered jointly by the Institute of Eastern Slavonic Studies and the Institute of Slavonic Studies, Institute of Religious Studies, and Institute of Ethnology and Cultural Anthropology.
Faculty Information
The Faculty of Philology offers over 20 philologies but teaches as many as 50 languages. It was granted the A category by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education, and study programs conducted at the Faculty lead in rankings prepared by the Education Foundation "Perspektywy". The Faculty consists of 8 institutes, and the Carpathian Region: Ethnolinguistics and Cultural Studies study program is conducted by the Institute of East Slavonic Studies.

Graduates of the program are specialists in linguistic, cultural, and intercultural communication in the Carpathian region, who speak at least two regional languages, know the specificity of the region as a whole, are experienced in contact and dialogue with local societies and cultures, have the ability to acquire qualitative data in this area as well as analyze it taking into consideration an adequate social and cultural specificity. Graduates can be employed in cultural and educational institutions, non-governmental organizations, as well as tourism and media.
