Program Overview

The Creative Writing program at the Faculty of Polish Studies, Jagiellonian University, is designed to teach students the use of the Polish literary language in creating artistic and aesthetically pleasing texts for various purposes. Program Description

Modern information and multimedia society increasingly requires specialists in artistic language who can skillfully construct expressions for both traditional and new types of literary texts. Studies in Creative Writing primarily teach the use of the Polish literary language in creating artistic and aesthetically pleasing texts for various purposes. They provide practical knowledge of literary forms, teach proper application of tools in poetics, rhetoric, and artistic text composition, help organize the work of writers, and raise awareness of the social and psychological aspects of textual functioning.

Faculty Information

The Faculty of Polish Studies has the category A granted by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education. The Faculty has been collaborating with institutions concerned with culture and art, especially from Kraków and Małopolska province, for many years. Students engage in various activities of the Kraków Festival Office, theaters of Kraków, cultural centers, and museums. The JU students’ Linguistics Research Society organizes the Month of First Language – a regular project that includes the Kraków Dictation, advertisement contest, "commentary and pitch,” and linguistics workshops in schools.
