Overview

The Hungarian Philology program at Jagiellonian University is designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the Hungarian language, culture, and literature. The program is offered in Polish, and students are required to have a sufficient level of Polish language proficiency.

Program Structure

The program is divided into two cycles:

• First-cycle program: 3 years (6 semesters), full-time, leading to a Licencjat (equivalent of Bachelor's degree)
• Second-cycle program: 2 years (4 semesters), full-time, leading to a Magister (equivalent of Master's degree)

Curriculum

The curriculum focuses on modern Hungarian culture and practical learning of Hungarian, including specialist languages concerning European matters, techniques, and computer science. Students will also gain knowledge of Hungarian history, culture, arts, and politics.

Faculty and Research

The program is conducted by the Institute of Linguistics, Translation Studies, and Hungarian Studies, which is part of the Faculty of Philology. The faculty offers over 20 philologies and teaches 50 languages, with a strong focus on research and academic excellence.

Graduates of the Hungarian Philology program can pursue careers in editing offices, publishing houses, tourism, cultural diplomacy, and translation. They can also work as translators, literature translators, or translators of specialist texts.
