Program Overview
Introduction to the Medicinal Chemistry Program
The Medicinal Chemistry program at Jagiellonian University is designed to provide students with a comprehensive education in the field of medicinal chemistry. The program is based on solid foundations in chemistry and covers selected issues in biological, medical, and pharmaceutical sciences.
Program Description
The program is focused on the search for new biologically active compounds, their analysis and isolation from biological material, computer-aided design of new compounds, and synthesis using advanced methods of organic chemistry. The designed study program was consulted with potential employers from the region, whose comments on the graduate's profile were taken into account when selecting the subjects of the courses.
Available Programs
The Faculty of Chemistry offers two programs:
- First-cycle program: a full-time program with a duration of 3 years (6 semesters), leading to a Licencjat (equivalent of Bachelor's degree) in Chemical Sciences.
- Second-cycle program: a full-time program with a duration of 2 years (4 semesters), leading to a Magister (equivalent of Master's degree) in Chemical Sciences.

Faculty of Chemistry
The Faculty of Chemistry has been continuously ranked among Poland's best scientific and research units since 2013. It has the A+ scientific category awarded by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education and is a part of the Marian Smoluchowski Kraków Research Consortium with the KNOW status.
Research and Facilities
The Faculty has the most extensive base of various chemical equipment in Małopolska, which is used very intensively during studies. It has specialized laboratories with the highest standards, where scientific research in chemical technology, catalysis, electrochemistry, and environmental analysis is carried out.
Career Opportunities
Graduates of the Medicinal Chemistry program are perfectly prepared to work in various types of laboratories in the study of the activity of new compounds, the synthesis and analysis of biologically active compounds. With an interdisciplinary knowledge of chemical, biological, and medical sciences, the graduates will be ready to work in various branches of the chemical, biotechnological, pharmaceutical, biomedical, cosmetics, and food industry.
Further Education Possibilities
Graduates of the second-cycle studies are additionally prepared to conduct research work in domestic and foreign research centers. They can also pursue further education in doctoral schools, post-diploma programs, or second-cycle programs.
Student Life
The university offers various opportunities for students to develop their hobbies and interests, including research societies and student organizations. Students can also participate in exchange programs, such as Erasmus+, CEEPUS, Utrecht Network, or European university Una Europa.
Admission to Studies
Admission to study programs at the Jagiellonian University is conducted electronically in the Online Application System. Detailed information about admission to this study program, including information on the method of calculating the result, qualification criteria, fees, deadlines, and a list of required documents, is available on the Online Application System.
Graduates' Profile
Medicinal Chemistry graduates are prepared to work in various types of laboratories and industries, with an emphasis on creative thinking, scientific approach to everyday life, and using knowledge to resolve various problems in the labor market. ```python
