Pharmacy Program at Jagiellonian University

The Pharmacy program at Jagiellonian University is a long-cycle, full-time study program that leads to a Master of Pharmacy degree. The program is conducted in Polish, and knowledge of the Polish language at least at a sufficient level is required.


Program Description

The Pharmacy program is a medical field of study that constantly attracts many students. The study program is the effect of the centuries-old university tradition combined with a creative and modern approach to the pharmaceutical sciences. It adapts to the needs of the labor market and changing expectations regarding pharmacists. The main emphasis is on developing competencies crucial in future professional work, such as providing efficient and safe pharmacotherapy, leading research teams, and searching for new therapeutic solutions.


Faculty of Pharmacy

The Faculty of Pharmacy is the best one in Poland, as it combines tradition and modernity, which is proper in the case of dynamism and development of exact science. It has the A+ category granted by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education, and programs conducted at the Faculty lead in rankings prepared by the Education Foundation "Perspektywy". The research conducted focuses on the search for new and innovative forms of medicines, assessment of the toxicity of medicines, and issues concerning biotechnology and pharmacology.


Curriculum Overview

The program curriculum indicates which subjects are scheduled for each semester of the studies, which are mandatory, which belong to the group of elective subjects, which of them end with an exam, and which do not. Graduates of the Pharmacy program are ready to work in community and hospital pharmacies, public and private institutions in the healthcare system area, establishments producing medical products, food supplements, medical devices, cosmetics, research and didactic institutions working in the medical and pharmaceutical sciences area, state drug administration institutions, measuring and control units responsible for the control of medical products, medical devices, food supplements, and other products.

Graduates can pursue further education in doctoral schools, post-diploma programs, or second-cycle programs.


Research Areas

The Faculty of Pharmacy has specialized laboratories for practical learning of making magistral and officinal drugs and technology laboratories to produce solid, semi-solid, and sterile drugs. Traineeships are conducted in hospital pharmacies collaborating with the Faculty and publicly available pharmacies in Kraków. Students have access to the Medical Library and the Jagiellonian Library resources.


Rankings and Distinctions

The program has received a positive evaluation from the Polish Accreditation Committee and has been ranked first in the Ranking of Study Programs prepared by the "Perspektywy" Education Foundation. The Faculty of Pharmacy has also been awarded the scientific category B+ in the discipline of Pharmacology and Pharmacy by the Minister of Education and Science.
