Introduction to the Protection of Cultural Property Program

The Protection of Cultural Property is a study program designed to meet the dynamically developing theoretical and practical issues in Poland's protection of cultural heritage. Students of this program explore the history of art, archaeology, and ethnology, the management of historical monuments, taking inventory of monuments in museums' collections and outdoor, legal aspects of monuments protection, doctrines of conservation, and making monuments available for tourists.

Program Description

The Protection of Cultural Property program is designed to meet the challenges of modern society, which defines its identity through various use (sometimes an overuse) of cultural heritage. The program prepares students to enter the labor market in areas such as the protection of cultural heritage, antique restoration, museology, and related areas. The program graduates can document various aspects of cultural heritage, evaluate it, recognize risks, and create maintenance and popularization programs.


Curriculum Overview

The program curriculum includes information about the subjects students will attend while studying this program. The program indicates which subjects are scheduled for each semester of the studies, which are mandatory, which belong to the group of elective subjects (so-called optional subjects), which of them end with an exam, and which do not. Each subject in such a program curriculum has its syllabus, which is a description of what students learn within the scope of that subject.

The Faculty of History has the category A granted by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education and is the best faculty of history in Poland according to the ranking of ‘Perspektywy’ Education Foundation.
