Program Overview
Introduction to the Advanced Spectroscopy in Chemistry Program
The Advanced Spectroscopy in Chemistry (ASC) program is an Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Degree operated by five European universities. The program aims to prepare students to become experts in spectroscopic characterization of matter and develop international skills towards professional industrial careers in chemical analysis and characterization of the structure of materials.
Program Overview
- The ASC program is a 2-year master's degree course that takes place across five European countries: Finland, France, Germany, Italy, and Poland.
- The program is jointly operated by the University of Helsinki, Jagiellonian University in Krakow, Alma Mater Studiorum University of Bologna, University of Lille, and Leipzig University.
- The program includes 17 associated industrial and research partners, providing students with increased opportunities towards international careers in modern fields of chemistry.
Program Structure
- The program includes a winter school, which is organized each year between the 1st and 2nd or 3rd and 4th semesters.
- Students will have the opportunity to develop international skills and expertise in spectroscopic techniques, preparing them for doctoral studies or professional industrial careers in chemical analysis and characterization of materials.
Research Areas
- The program covers applications of spectroscopic techniques to chemistry, including molecular synthesis, biology, nanotechnologies, modeling, pharmacy, green chemistry, materials, and sustainable energies.
- Students will have access to state-of-the-art equipment and expertise at the five participating universities.
Program Details
- The program is funded by the European Union and offers grants for students.
- The program has a strong alumni network, with over 300 graduates.
- The program is recognized as a high-quality joint master's course, providing students with a cross-cultural education and increased opportunities for international careers.
Program Partners
- The ASC consortium includes five universities:
- University of Helsinki
- Jagiellonian University in Krakow
- Alma Mater Studiorum University of Bologna
- University of Lille
- Leipzig University
- The program also includes 17 associated industrial and research partners, providing students with increased opportunities for internships, research collaborations, and career development.
