Program Overview
BCom Part-Time with Law
The BCom part-time with Law degree is a specialized program that provides students with excellent training in critical thinking skills combined with a breadth of professional business knowledge. This degree is suitable for students who are interested in a specific field in business but also wish to have a background in law.
Overview
Part-time students receive the same qualification as full-time students at Wits. The program requires students to attend lectures on the Braamfontein West Campus in the evening, with lectures typically held one evening a week for each course being studied. Part-time students are allowed to register for a maximum of three full-year courses or six modular courses in a year.
Career Opportunities
To practice law, students need at least an LLB degree.
Curriculum
The BCom degree with Law requires students to choose one BCom major from the following options, with Law as the second major:
- Accounting
- Insurance and Risk
- Marketing
- Management
- HR
- Corporate Finance and Investment Students earn points as they progress through courses, with a minimum total of 432 points required for the BCom degree.
Entry Requirements
The entry requirements for the program include:
- APS: 43+
- English Home Language or First Additional Language: Level 5
- Mathematics: Level 5 Applicants with an APS of 35-42, as well as English Level 6 and Mathematics Level 6, will be wait-listed subject to place availability. For students who matriculated prior to 2008, the requirements include:
- Matric with full exemption and an admission rating score of at least 26
- Success in English on Higher Grade (first or second language) with a symbol of D or above and Mathematics with Higher Grade (D) or Standard Grade (C) Applications from students currently studying Law at other institutions, and who do not have an undergraduate degree, will be considered if they have passed at least three courses at that institution, two of which must be Law courses.
University Application Process
The Student Enrolment Centre at Wits handles all student applications. To apply, students must:
- Check the admission requirements for their degree
- Submit their application, required documentation, and application fee before the closing date
- Monitor the progress of their application via the Self Service Portal Note that part-time students are not eligible for NSFAS funding, University Entrance Scholarships, or campus residence placement.

The current average tuition fees for the first year of study can be found on the Fees website. The Financial Aid and Scholarships Office provides information on student funding and scholarships, including University-funded Scholarships and external bursaries.
