Postgraduate Diploma in Public Management (UPOnline)
The Postgraduate Diploma in Public Management (UPOnline) is a part-time, fully online program offered by the University of Pretoria. The program is designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of public management and administration, with a focus on the African context.

Admission Requirements
To be eligible for the program, students must have:

- A minimum of 3 years of appropriate work experience in the public sector
Additional Requirements
Any prospective student wishing to make claims of equivalence will have to produce written evidence of their competence to undertake a program at this level (written entrance assignment set by the University) in accordance with the University’s RPL Policy and rules.
Computer Literacy
Students are required to have some technical and digital literacy skills, including:
- Navigating the University's eLearning environment (ClickUP)
- Using the email service in the LMS
- Managing digital files
- Using the Library website or databases for research
- Using a webcam, uploading videos or audio files, and using social media for communication or collaboration
Other Programme-Specific Information
Exam entry in all subjects requires a minimum 40%. In order to continue on the program, all students must receive exam entry in every module. Students cannot be registered on the program more than two years.
Pass with Distinction
To pass with distinction, students must obtain a Cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) of at least 75% and complete the Diploma within the minimum period of time.

The program requires a minimum of 120 credits.

- PMA 707: Governance, public management and African leadership
- PMA 708: Public sector transformation and reform
- PMA 709: Programme and project management in the public sector
- PMA 710: Advanced human resource management in the public sector
- PMA 711: Advanced public financial management and budgeting
- PMA 712: Public sector planning, monitoring and evaluation
Module Details
Each module is 16 weeks fully online and worth 20 credits. The modules are presented in a specific sequence, with six enrolment opportunities per year.
Tuition Fees
The tuition fees for the program are as follows:
- SA/SADC: R8,464.00 per module
- International: Not specified The total program cost is R50,784.00 for SA/SADC students.
Annual Increase and Payment Information
The module pricing is subject to change at the start of each year without prior notice. The UPOnline tuition fees will increase annually by approximately 6%. The annual increase applies from the March intake, which is the second intake of the year. If the program fee is paid in full upfront, the student remains responsible for the difference between the initial payment and the increased amount until program completion. Any payments made will first be applied to settle any outstanding debt owed to the University of Pretoria. The total program cost is all-inclusive. Always quote your student number (EMPLID) when making payments. UPOnline follows a 'Pay as you study' model - you pay only for the module(s) you register for. Tuition fees are divided into equal payments per module and must be paid upon registration before the start of the module to ensure continued access to study resources. UPOnline students are not eligible for discounts on tuition fees, and no payment arrangements can be made.
