English and American Studies BA Program

The English and American Studies BA program is offered by the School of English and American Studies at Eötvös Loránd University (ELTE). This program can be completed as either a major or a minor, with the minor option available only to students enrolled in other major programs at ELTE.

Program Structure

Strength of Program

Career Opportunities

Graduates with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and American Studies are eligible for admission to the English Studies MA or American Studies MA or similar philological degrees. They can work in various fields, including journalism, tourism, education in non-state funded schools, government organizations, diplomacy, and any other jobs that do not require degree-specific skills.

Admission Requirements

• Entry Requirements: Applicants must present their certificate of matriculation from a secondary school and submit their application with the necessary attachments. The university accepts certificates equivalent to the Hungarian certificate of matriculation.
• Language Requirements: The program is taught in English, requiring a very good command of English (minimum B2 level proficiency, CEFR). Language knowledge is assessed during the oral entrance exam.

• Entrance Examination and Selection Process: The entrance exam includes a discussion about the applicant's motivation and assesses their command of English. The format is an online interview, with ranking based on academic excellence and entrance exam results.
